How many types of clouds are there in the world?

The clouds are constantly changing, each time achieving a different shape, color, consistency, so it’s difficult to count them directly. For synoptic purposes, however, it became necessary to create a permanent cloud classification. They were therefore divided, primarily on the basis of their external appearance, into 10 types of clouds.

What are the different types of clouds

Cloudy is assessed quantitatively, without the use of special devices. The scale of the quantitative assessment covers eleven degrees: „0” means sky without clouds, and „10” means full coverage. In terms of quality at the meteorological stations, the types of clouds are determined. Types and varieties only at specialized stations. Satellites circulating around the Earth record the radiation emitted by the surface of the lands, oceans and clouds. This information is processed into very legible maps of colder areas – places brighter – and warmer – darker fragments.

On these maps, the cloud systems are clearly visible. Geostationary satellites take pictures of the same areas of the globe in short intervals, so you can follow the changes in the cloud layout, and thus the speed and direction of air masses, which information is necessary for modern weather forecasting. This does not mean, however, that we are completely helpless without complicated devices.

Many people are able to predict the weather with clouds for the next few days, not relying on television or radio messages. The weather is so local that these messages are often too general. Farmers and fishermen can often predict the weather based on simple cloud observations. For example, red clouds on the west side of the sky at dusk are a harbinger of beautiful weather the next day.
